Does agroforestry increase resilience of wheat crop to climate change?

DigitAF news Florian PhD

To answer this question, Florian Soulard joined the DigitAF project in April 2023 for a 3-year PhD research. He will follow a modelling approch combining two existing models (Hi-sAFe biophysicla model of tree-crop interactions, and Sur’eau hydraulogical model predicting cavitation risk), to first determine

  1. whether cavitation is a key process to consider when studying resilience to climate change and to a drought event;
  2. how AF microclimatic interaction impacts cavitation of wheat crop.

[Edit] The first results indicate a real need to take into into account the cavitation process in crop-growth modelling. For the same inputs, not taking the cavitation into account leads to erroneous results, especially when a drougth event occurs.
